Video Triggers Social Media Outrage

A video allegedly showing a loco pilot stopping a train to buy samosas has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism and prompting an official inquiry by the Indian Railways. The incident was reported from Rangwasa, near Rau on the Indore–Mhow railway section in Madhya Pradesh.

The viral clip appeared to show the loco pilot getting off the train and walking to a nearby shop to purchase snacks. Social media users claimed that the train remained halted for nearly 10 minutes, causing unnecessary delays for passengers. Many demanded strict action against the railway employee, accusing him of misusing his authority.

Railways Orders Investigation

Following the video’s circulation, the Railway administration took cognisance of the matter and ordered an investigation.

Railway Public Relations Officer Mukesh Kumar confirmed that the viral video had been forwarded to senior officials for verification. The inquiry was launched to determine why the train had stopped and whether any railway rules had been violated.

Probe Finds Viral Claims Misleading

The investigation, however, found that the claims made in the viral video were misleading.

According to the Railway authorities, the train seen in the video was not a passenger DEMU train but a goods train. Officials clarified that the train had been halted because railway maintenance work was underway on the route. Since the train was already stationary due to operational reasons, the loco pilot briefly stepped out to purchase food.

Railways stated that the stop was not made for buying samosas, contrary to claims circulating online. Officials said the viral video presented the incident out of context, leading to widespread misunderstanding and unfair criticism of the loco pilot.

The Railway administration urged people not to draw conclusions based solely on viral videos without verifying the facts. The incident once again highlights how misleading social media posts can spread quickly and create false narratives before official investigations establish the truth.
