Abhishek Sharma’s Explosive Knock Powers India to 7-Wicket Win Over Afghanistan

Abhishek Sharma produced a sensational batting performance at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as India defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets in the first T20I of the three-match series. His explosive knock completely overshadowed Afghanistan’s efforts as India chased down the target with ease.

Batting first after India won the toss and opted to bowl, Afghanistan struggled early in their innings. Arshdeep Singh struck with the new ball and put the visitors under immense pressure. Afghanistan were reduced to 43 for five, leaving their innings in serious trouble.

However, Azmatullah Omarzai and experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi staged a strong recovery. Omarzai played an impressive innings of 64 runs, while Nabi contributed a valuable 33. Their efforts helped Afghanistan reach 156 for eight in 20 overs and gave the team a respectable total.

The target of 157, however, proved far too small for India’s powerful batting line-up.

India came out attacking from the beginning, with Abhishek Sharma taking complete control of the chase. The left-handed opener smashed 82 runs off just 32 balls, hitting seven sixes and seven fours in a breathtaking display of power-hitting.

Ishan Kishan also played a useful supporting role, scoring 42 runs and helping India maintain the momentum throughout the chase.

India eventually reached 157 for three in just 13.4 overs, completing a comprehensive seven-wicket victory. The win gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

The match remained firmly under India’s control from start to finish, with Arshdeep’s early breakthroughs followed by Abhishek Sharma’s explosive batting making the difference.

With such a dominant start to the series, India will look to carry the momentum into the second T20I, while Afghanistan will aim to bounce back strongly.
