Tension Mounts Over Death of Mental Health Patient at SCB Medical College
Family Alleges Patient Was Assaulted by Security Personnel and Hospital Staff; Police Examine CCTV, Medical Records and Forensic Evidence
Tension is mounting over the death of a 40-year-old mental health patient at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, with his family alleging that he was allegedly beaten to death by security personnel and hospital staff.
The deceased has been identified as Srikant Das, a resident of Pahanga village under Rasulpur block in Jajpur district. His family members, including his wife, brother and mother, have demanded an impartial investigation and stringent action against those found responsible.

According to the family, Srikant was admitted to the Mental Health Institute at SCB Medical College and Hospital on September 28 after falling ill.
The family has alleged that on the night of September 29, Srikant came out of the ward, following which some security personnel and hospital staff on duty allegedly assaulted him with plastic pipes.
He died on the morning of September 30.
The family has raised serious questions over the circumstances surrounding his death and demanded that the incident be investigated independently to establish what exactly happened inside the hospital premises.
Police Begin Detailed Investigation
Police have taken the matter seriously and formed a special team under the supervision of the Cuttack DCP to investigate the incident.
A scientific team has also visited the spot as part of the investigation. The Mangalabag Police have examined CCTV footage and medical records related to the deceased.
More than 10 people, including doctors, nursing officers and ward attendants, have reportedly been questioned in connection with the case.
Investigators are examining the sequence of events leading up to Srikant’s death and are also looking into the allegations made by his family.
Forensic Tests Awaited
As part of the investigation, samples from the deceased’s liver, kidney, heart and viscera have been sent to the State Forensic Laboratory for histopathological examination.
The forensic and medical reports are expected to provide important evidence regarding the circumstances and possible cause of death.
Police are continuing to examine CCTV footage, medical records and statements of hospital personnel as they work to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The allegations made by the family have not yet been established, and the findings of the ongoing investigation and forensic examination will be crucial in determining what led to the patient’s death.
