A depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system is expected to move west-northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, with a possible landfall near Kakinada–Machilipatnam on the evening of November 2.

A cyclonic circulation associated with the depression extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. According to the current forecast, the system is likely to intensify into a deep depression by the night of October 31 and further develop into a cyclonic storm on November 1.

The storm is then expected to continue moving west-northwestwards towards the west-central Bay of Bengal before approaching the Andhra Pradesh coast.

Expected Track and Wind Speed

The intensity of the potential cyclone is expected to be lower than that of Cyclone Arnab. According to preliminary estimates, the system may cross the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada–Machilipatnam on the evening of November 2.

Wind speeds during the storm are likely to reach 80–90 kmph. The IMD is closely monitoring the system, and its movement and intensity may change as it develops.

Will Odisha Be Affected?

Odisha is unlikely to experience a major direct impact if the system follows its projected path towards the Andhra Pradesh coast. However, southern Odisha may experience rainfall due to the influence of the developing cyclone.

According to the preliminary forecast, sea conditions are likely to remain rough over parts of the northwest Bay of Bengal and along the southern Odisha coast.

Wind speeds along the southern Odisha coast may reach 40–50 kmph on the evening of November 2. On November 3, winds may strengthen further, reaching 50–60 kmph.

Authorities and coastal residents are advised to follow official weather updates as the system develops.

Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Likely Until November 5

Several districts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms and rainfall until November 5 under the influence of the prevailing weather system.

The IMD has issued an orange warning for Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall on November 3 and 4.

The developing cyclonic system may contribute to unsettled weather conditions across southern Odisha during this period.

Residents in the districts under warning are advised to remain alert, follow official advisories and take necessary precautions. The weather department is expected to provide further updates on the cyclone’s movement, intensity and possible impact on Odisha.
