Odisha is likely to experience a noticeable change in weather conditions over the next few days, with rainfall expected to subside and winter chill gradually setting in from November 8. The night temperature is likely to drop, bringing colder conditions across several parts of the state.

According to weather experts, the second week of November may mark the beginning of a significant winter spell in Odisha. Foggy conditions are also likely to develop in the morning, while cold winds may add to the chill during early hours.

Usually, winter begins to intensify in Odisha from the month of Kartika. However, the impact of Cyclone Murasu has delayed the onset of cold conditions this year. With the cyclone weakening, atmospheric moisture is expected to decrease, creating favourable conditions for a drop in temperature.

Weather expert Sarat Sahu said that coastal districts of Odisha may witness night temperatures 2 to 5 degrees Celsius below normal in the coming days. The influence of cold and dry winds, interaction with land and the Eastern Ghats mountain range are expected to contribute to the weakening of Cyclone Murasu.

The night temperature is likely to fall from November 8 and 9, while the daytime temperature may rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius over the next two days.

Cyclone Murasu Weakens After Landfall

Meanwhile, Cyclone Murasu has weakened after making landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast. The system crossed the coast between Nellore and Narasapuram between 3.30 am and 5.30 am on Tuesday.

During landfall, the cyclone packed sustained wind speeds of 100 to 110 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph. It has gradually weakened after crossing the coast. According to forecasts, the system was expected to weaken into a cyclonic storm by Tuesday afternoon and further deteriorate into a deep depression by midnight.

There is no significant threat of a direct impact from the cyclone on Odisha. However, some parts of the state may continue to receive rainfall until Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Malkangiri and Koraput districts. Patrapur in Ganjam district recorded the highest rainfall of 43 mm during the past 24 hours.

Dry Weather Likely from November 6

Rainfall activity in Odisha is expected to decrease from November 5. Most parts of the state are likely to experience predominantly dry weather on November 6, 7 and 8.

With the cyclone’s influence gradually fading and moisture levels declining in the atmosphere, weather conditions are expected to become favourable for the arrival of winter.

As a result, Odisha may witness a noticeable drop in night temperatures from November 8, bringing relief from the recent rainy conditions and marking the beginning of the winter chill across the state.
