The Odisha Transport Department has announced that vehicle checking across the state will become stricter starting January 1, with a primary focus on ensuring compliance with the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate norms.

Fuel Refusal Without Valid PUC

From next month onwards, petrol pumps across Odisha will not supply fuel to vehicles without a valid PUC certificate. The state government has issued clear directives to petrol pump owners and fuel dealers to verify the certificate before refueling.

In preparation for the rule, the Transport Commissioner confirmed that discussions have already been held with petrol pump operators statewide. Many pumps also offer on-the-spot PUC testing to make it convenient for vehicle owners.

Surge in PUC Testing Demand

The announcement has already led to a rush at pollution testing centres in major cities such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Rourkela. Vehicle owners are eager to renew their PUC certificates to ensure uninterrupted access to fuel. Officials noted that several vehicles on Odisha roads currently operate without updated pollution certificates, making the new enforcement critical.

Objective: Pollution Control and Road Safety

The stricter vehicle checking aims to reduce air pollution and promote road safety. By enforcing valid PUC certificates, the government intends to monitor and control emissions from both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.

Advisory for Vehicle Owners

Authorities have urged all drivers to renew their PUC certificates promptly to avoid inconvenience at fuel stations. Vehicle owners can visit authorized pollution testing centres at petrol pumps or standalone centres to get their certificates updated.

This move reflects Odisha’s continued efforts to curb vehicular pollution and strengthen regulatory compliance, ensuring cleaner air and safer roads for all citizens. Vehicle owners are advised to take immediate action to stay compliant before the new rules take effect from January 1.
