Odisha High Court has dismissed the petition filed by popular Ollywood actor Anubhav Mohanty seeking discharge in a domestic violence case. The case, which originated in the Puri Ghat Police Station, involves allegations of abuse made by his former wife, actress Barsha Priyadarshini.

Background of the Case

The case was first registered in June 2024 at Puri Ghat Police Station following complaints by Barsha Priyadarshini regarding domestic abuse. Prior to this, the actor had faced a court-issued NBW (Non-Bailable Warrant) from the JMFC Court in Cuttack after repeatedly failing to appear for the charge frame hearing.

On May 8, 2024, the JMFC court had directed the framing of charges against Anubhav Mohanty. He later filed a petition for discharge, which was rejected by the trial court.

High Court Challenge

Actor Anubhav Mohanty approached the Odisha High Court challenging the trial court’s order. The High Court had earlier stayed the NBW, which had been issued due to his repeated failure to appear in court.

However, the High Court upheld the trial court’s decision, maintaining the charge frame against Anubhav Mohanty and his associate Khageshwar, allowing the case to proceed.

Security and Court Proceedings

During the proceedings, the court allowed Anubhav Mohanty additional time on multiple occasions to appear before the trial court due to personal reasons. Despite repeated requests for adjournment, the court emphasized that the NBW will remain in force until the actor appears and the charge framing process is completed.

Next Steps

The domestic violence case against Anubhav Mohanty and his associate will now continue in the JMFC court as per the directives of the Odisha High Court. The actor is expected to face trial on charges framed by the lower court in connection with the allegations by Barsha Priyadarshini.
