15 Naxals Surrender in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund District
Government and Police Measures Lead to Major Surrender; Naxals Hand Over Firearms and Opt for Mainstream Reintegration
Chhattisgarh police witnessed a major development as 15 Naxals, including Vikas, secretary of the Odisha State Committee, surrendered today in Mahasamund district. All of them turned themselves in along with their firearms. Authorities confirmed that the Naxals handed over three AK-47 rifles, SLRs, INSAS rifles, and 303 rifles to the police.
Reason for Surrender
According to officials, the Naxals chose to surrender due to intense police operations and government measures aimed at curbing Maoist activities. They reportedly stated that they no longer wished to remain active in the organization. Vikas mentioned that other Naxals are also likely to join the mainstream soon.
However, Naxals associated with the Telangana area committee are reported to still be active within the organization.
Rehabilitation Support
The police have provided financial assistance of ₹50,000 to each surrendered Naxal, along with compensation for the firearms handed over.
Reports indicate that these Naxals were integrated into mainstream activities after discussions with Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma.
Maoist Leadership Developments
Meanwhile, the arrest of top Maoist leader Ganpati in Nepal has grabbed widespread attention. Despite this, Chhattisgarh police or authorities from other states have not issued further statements regarding the ongoing situation.
Ganpati, who served as the General Secretary of the Maoist organization from 2004 to 2018, had stepped down due to health reasons. Experts suggest that his arrest or surrender could deliver a significant blow to the Maoist outfit.
