In a significant display of unity, eight BJD corporators from Cuttack’s Chaudhwar area visited Naveen Niwas on Monday, led by former minister Pratap Jena. The meeting with BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik came amid intense speculation about internal dissent and possible mass resignation within the party.

Clear Message After Closed-Door Meeting

Following the meeting, the corporators firmly dismissed all rumours of rebellion. They reiterated their allegiance to the Biju Janata Dal, stating that they remain committed to the party.

“All corporators are with Naveen Babu. We got our identity from BJD, and we will continue to remain with BJD,” they said, calling reports of resignation “false and baseless.”

Leadership Guidance and Organisational Strength

Speaking after the meeting, Pratap Jena said that Naveen Patnaik provided key guidance to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. He also assured that new leadership decisions for the area would be announced soon, boosting confidence among local representatives.

Corporators Distance Themselves from Prabhat Biswal

Ward No. 44 corporator Pradeep Kishore Khuntia clarified the group’s stance regarding suspended leader Prabhat Biswal.

“We had gone to meet him on his invitation, but he has taken a different path. We are not with him. Our identity is BJD, and we will respect whatever decision Naveen Babu takes,” Khuntia stated.

Background: Expulsion and Cross-Voting Controversy

The political tension stems from recent disciplinary action within the party. Prabhat Biswal was expelled from BJD, while his son, Soubhik Biswal, was suspended over alleged cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha elections.

A prior closed-door meeting at Biswal’s residence had fueled speculation that several corporators might resign from the party.

Unity Restored in Cuttack-Chaudhwar

However, Monday’s visit to Naveen Niwas appears to have quelled those concerns. The corporators emphasized that the party remains united and committed to the development of Cuttack-Chaudhwar under Naveen Patnaik’s leadership.

Timely Intervention Prevents Political Fallout

The intervention by senior leader Pratap Jena is being seen as a crucial step in containing potential damage and reinforcing party unity in a key urban region. The developments signal that, at least for now, the BJD has managed to maintain cohesion amid internal challenges.
