A Town Hall meeting on Nari Shakti Vandan was held in Bhubaneswar, where Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized that empowering women is essential for building a strong and developed India. He described the Nari Shakti Vandan Act as a historic and transformative step towards ensuring greater participation of women in governance.
Act Not Just a Law but a Vision
Addressing the gathering at the Railway Auditorium, the Chief Minister said the Nari Shakti Vandan Act is not merely legislation but a realization of the dreams of millions of women. The Act ensures one-third reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies, paving the way for greater representation in decision-making processes.
Women Leading Change at Grassroots Level
Highlighting Odisha’s progress, the Chief Minister noted that around 14.5 lakh women are actively serving as elected representatives in Panchayati Raj institutions. He stated that women are no longer just voters but active participants in democracy, contributing significantly to governance and development.
Focus on Economic Independence
The government is also focusing on making women financially independent through initiatives like the Subhadra Yojana and Lakhpati Didi schemes. These programs aim to empower women at the grassroots level and ensure prosperity reaches every household in the state.

Majhi stressed that with determination and willpower, women can excel in any field. He highlighted that real development happens when women at the grassroots adopt digital banking and modern agricultural practices.

Speakers at the event, including Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy and noted writer Pratibha Ray, emphasized the importance of equal representation and respect for women in policymaking. They called for collective support to strengthen women’s leadership from पंचायत to Parliament.
