Odisha Intensifies Action Against Illegal LPG Stockpiling; Nearly 5,000 Cylinders Seized Across State
Government Ensures Stable LPG Supply
The Odisha government, along with the Centre, is taking active steps to ensure smooth supply of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders across the state. The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has intensified enforcement actions against individuals illegally stockpiling gas cylinders.
Massive Raids Conducted Across State
According to official sources, the department has conducted raids at 2,503 locations so far. During these operations, 4,992 illegally stored LPG cylinders were seized. Authorities have also registered 31 cases under relevant laws, while 384 additional cases have been filed under the Essential Commodities Act.
Arrests in Illegal Cylinder Trade
Officials further confirmed that five individuals have been arrested for illegal storage and sale of LPG cylinders. The crackdown aims to prevent black marketing and ensure uninterrupted supply of essential fuel to consumers.
Government Assures Stable LPG Supply
Despite ongoing geopolitical developments affecting global fuel markets, the government has assured that LPG supply in India remains stable. Priority is being given to ensuring uninterrupted distribution of domestic LPG to households.
Digital Booking Encouraged for Consumers
Consumers are being encouraged to use digital platforms such as SMS and IVRS for LPG cylinder refilling bookings. Authorities have also urged citizens not to panic, avoid hoarding, and rely only on official information sources.
Appeal to Avoid Rumours and Panic Buying
The government has advised the public not to believe in rumours or indulge in panic booking or unnecessary stockpiling of cylinders, emphasizing that supply chains remain fully functional and monitored.
