Administrative Action After Outbreak in Patapur Area

A major diarrhoea outbreak in the Patapur area of Dasarathpur block in Jajpur district has prompted swift action from the local administration. The outbreak, which began last Friday, has so far claimed one life and affected over 100 people, leading to heightened health concerns in the region.

Following the incident, the Jajpur Municipality has imposed strict restrictions on street food vendors and fast-food outlets.

Ban on Dahi Bara, Fast Food and Street Vendors

Authorities have enforced a one-week ban on the sale of dahi bara, fast food, and street food items within the Jajpur municipal area. The restriction also applies to mobile vendors and roadside stalls.

Officials have ordered strict enforcement measures to prevent the sale of uncovered or potentially unsafe food items during this period.

Inspection Drives and Crackdown in Urban Areas

A special enforcement team led by Health Officer Dr. Pradeep Khuntia conducted raids across several locations, including Kusuma, Medical Chhak, and Jodikua. Street vendors selling items such as dahi bara, chaat, and golgappa were inspected and removed from key areas.

The administration has intensified surveillance to ensure compliance with safety directives.

Food Sample Collection and Safety Checks

Health officials have begun collecting food samples from various shops to test for contamination. The quality of food being sold in the municipal area is under strict review to prevent further spread of infection.

Authorities are also monitoring hygiene standards at food preparation points.

Public Advisory on Water and Hygiene

The Jajpur municipal administration has urged residents to drink only boiled water and maintain strict hygiene practices to prevent further spread of infection.

Citizens have been advised to avoid consuming roadside food items until the situation is under control.

Extension of Restrictions to Nearby Panchayats

The restrictions have also been extended to four nearby panchayats around Patapur, where the sale of dahi bara, chaat, golgappa, and other fast-food items has been completely prohibited.

Officials said the step was necessary to contain the spread of the disease.

Health Minister Reviews Situation on Ground

Following the outbreak, Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling and senior health officials visited Jajpur to assess the situation. They reviewed treatment facilities at the district hospital and held discussions with local authorities regarding containment measures.

The government has assured all necessary medical support for affected patients.

With strict bans, inspection drives, and health monitoring in place, authorities are working to contain the diarrhoea outbreak in Jajpur. The administration continues to focus on preventing further spread while ensuring safe and hygienic food practices across the region.
