Sehwag Name Returns with a Bang: Teen Sensation Aaryavir Shines in T20 Debut
Aaryivir Sehwag Makes Explosive Debut in Delhi Premier League
Aaryivir Sehwag, the 18-year-old son of legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag, made a sparkling debut in the 2025 Delhi Premier League (DPL), displaying the same fearless batting style that made his father a cricketing icon.
Central Delhi Kings vs East Delhi Riders at Arun Jaitley Stadium
Playing for Central Delhi Kings in their 39th match against East Delhi Riders at the historic Arun Jaitley Stadium, Aaryivir was promoted as an opener in the absence of teammate Dhul, who is away at the Duleep Trophy camp. He didn’t take long to make an impression, scoring 22 runs off just 16 balls, including four crisp boundaries that electrified the crowd.
A Confident Start Against Seasoned Bowlers
Beginning cautiously with just one run off his first four deliveries, Aaryivir soon switched gears against the experienced pacer Navdeep Saini. On Saini’s very first ball, he smashed a thunderous drive over deep extra cover for four, followed by another stylish boundary through extra cover and long-off. He then took on spinner Raunak Vaghela, striking two more boundaries—one towards third man and another to long-on—before being dismissed in the same over. His short but aggressive innings evoked memories of his father’s trademark attacking style.
Carrying Forward the Sehwag Legacy
Though the match result is still awaited, Aaryivir’s bold debut has already sparked conversations about the rise of Delhi’s next generation of cricket stars. For fans, it marked the much-awaited return of the Sehwag name to competitive cricket after nearly a decade.
Proven Track Record in Domestic Cricket
Aaryivir’s DPL entry comes on the back of an impressive domestic record. He first made waves with a 49-run debut in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, followed by a marathon 200 not out off 229 balls in the Cooch Behar Trophy, and a stunning 297 off 309 balls against Meghalaya. These performances established him as a standout talent, ultimately earning him a place in the DPL auction
