CHSE Celebrates 44th Foundation Day, Focus on Vocational and Digital Education

CHSE Emphasises Vocational Education, Digital Learning and NEP 2020 Reforms; BSE-CHSE Merger and Plus Two Open Schooling in Focus

The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, celebrated its 44th Foundation Day on Monday, with emphasis on vocational education, digital learning and reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Kotpad MLA Shri Rupu Bhatra attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department Dr. N. Thirumala Naik was present as the Guest of Honour. Director of Higher Secondary Education Smt. Niyati Pattnaik, CHSE Chairman Shri Mrunal Kanti Das, Secretary Smt. Subhrabala Behera, Vice-Chairman Akrura Barik and Controller of Examinations Dr. Prasanta Kumar Parida were among the other dignitaries present.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest praised CHSE for its effective examination management and stressed the need to further improve the quality of education. He said the Council has been working to strengthen the foundation of education while bringing reforms in line with NEP 2020.

Dr. Naik highlighted the state’s efforts to introduce a new curriculum based on experiential learning. Steps are also being taken to prepare reference books in Odia for Science students to support their preparation for competitive examinations.

The Council has been provided ₹10 crore for developing digital educational content, which will help students access quality learning resources. Vocational education was another major focus, with an emphasis on ensuring that students acquire skills in at least one trade by the time they complete Plus Two.

The Secretary also informed that efforts are underway to merge the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and CHSE into a single unified board. The Chief Minister has also approved the introduction of Plus Two courses through the State Institute of Open Schooling (SIOS).

During the event, the Council’s annual report and souvenir Prajna were unveiled. Winners of the debate competition and students who excelled in various categories at the School Games Federation of India were also felicitated.
