Congress Alone Can Counter False Propaganda: Organizational Drive Launched in Bhubaneswar

10

The Congress party has initiated the process of selecting district presidents across Odisha through a democratic exercise. The announcement was made by AICC observer and former Union Minister of State for Finance, JD Seelam, at a press conference held at the Congress Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.

Transparent Selection Under AICC Guidelines

According to Mr. Seelam, the selection of district presidents will be carried out by respecting the faith and trust of all party workers. The process has been launched under the larger “Organization Building Campaign” initiated by the AICC.

For every district, the AICC has appointed one observer, while the PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) has appointed three observers to ensure transparency and accountability.

Engagement With Workers and Social Groups

Mr. Seelam emphasized that observers will meet not only party workers and grassroots functionaries but also like-minded organizations, women’s groups, social outfits, and even non-political individuals.

He reiterated that the Congress does not discriminate on the basis of caste, religion, or community, and efforts will be made to ensure representation from all sections of society.

Reviving the Party’s Ideals

Highlighting Congress ideology, Mr. Seelam stated that the party will continue to walk on the path of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi. He criticized the ruling dispensation for indulging in “false propaganda and theatrics,” claiming that only the Congress has the strength to counter it.

He praised the PCC president for his hard work and called upon all party workers to put in equal effort to make the Congress stronger and capable of returning to power.

Call for Media and Public Participation

The AICC observer also appealed to the media to share constructive suggestions regarding the organization-building campaign. He confirmed that he has been appointed as the observer for Bhubaneswar district and will soon travel to block-level units to interact with party cadres.

District-Level Consultations Begin

During the press conference, Mr. Seelam announced that the process of selecting efficient district presidents has already begun. He urged all Congress workers to share their valuable suggestions—either written or oral—for strengthening the organization.

He outlined a week-long schedule in which he will:

  • Meet party workers across Bhubaneswar district,

  • Hold ward and block-level meetings,

  • Interact with representatives from all Assembly constituencies,

  • Consult social organizations and individuals aligned with Gandhian ideology.

Key Leaders Present

The press conference was attended by Sujit Padhi (PCC Disciplinary Committee Chairman and Observer), Bishwajit Das (Bhubaneswar District Convenor), Amrita Das, and Samsida Tayab (PCC observers). Senior leaders and workers of the Bhubaneswar District Congress also participated in a subsequent meeting chaired by Mr. Seelam.
