FarmX Proposes ₹1,000 Crore Investment in Odisha for Autonomous Electric Tractors and Smart Farming

Silicon Valley-based technology firm FarmX has proposed an investment of ₹1,000 crore in Odisha to establish an advanced manufacturing and export hub focused on autonomous electric tractors, artificial intelligence (AI) software, robotics and intelligent farming systems.

A FarmX delegation led by Chief Operating Officer Premal Ashar and Head of AI Lalit Bhatt discussed the proposal with Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, officials of the Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy departments, and Additional Chief Secretary, Electronics and Information Technology, Vishal Kumar Dev.

The proposed project combines a high-technology manufacturing campus with a smart precision farming initiative. According to the proposal, the facility could generate up to 1,120 direct and 3,700 indirect jobs in specialised technology fields.

The planned manufacturing campus is expected to have an annual production capacity of up to 1,000 autonomous electric tractors and one lakh field-sensing units. These products are proposed to cater to both domestic and international markets.

Singh Deo highlighted Odisha’s efforts to attract investment in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors and electric mobility. The proposed FarmX project is also aimed at bringing advanced agricultural technologies to the state’s farming sector.

FarmMap Platform to Support Precision Farming

A key component of the proposal is FarmMap, FarmX’s open-architecture agricultural technology platform. The system uses satellite imagery, OSMO soil-moisture sensors and a regional-language mobile application, including Odia-language support, to provide real-time farm intelligence.

The platform is designed to support automated irrigation and help farmers optimise the use of water, fertilisers and pesticides. Such technologies can provide farmers with data-driven information for making decisions related to crop and field management.

Focus on High-Tech Manufacturing

The proposed investment comes as Odisha continues to attract projects in advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, electronics and other technology-intensive sectors. The state recently cleared a large pipeline of investments spanning AI-led data centres, semiconductors, green energy and advanced manufacturing.

FarmX’s proposal is currently under discussion with the Odisha government. If implemented, the project would add autonomous agricultural machinery and AI-enabled farming systems to the state’s emerging high-technology manufacturing landscape.

The proposal also envisages Odisha as a potential base for exporting autonomous electric tractors and smart agricultural equipment to international markets. Further details on the location, implementation timeline, final investment structure and approvals are expected to emerge as discussions between the company and the state government progress.
