The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) today hosted the 3rd edition of the KIMS Conclave, bringing together senior medical practitioners, AIIMS directors and public health experts from across Odisha and India. The conclave centred on the future of medical care, rural health empowerment and research-driven clinical practice.
Dr Sibananda Mohanty Conferred with KIMS Health Hero Award
The inaugural KIMS Health Hero Award – Health Empowerment in Rural Odisha (HERO) was presented to Dr Sibananda Mohanty for his exemplary contributions to community engagement, malaria control and maternal healthcare in the remote regions of Mayurbhanj district.
“KIMS Exists to Serve the Poor”: Dr Achyuta Samanta
Founder of KIIT, KISS and KIMS, Dr Achyuta Samanta, expressed gratitude for the presence of senior healthcare leaders and reiterated his core vision: service to society.
“We are contented when we can work for the poor. I want all of you to be happy by serving society,” he said.
Announcing a major expansion plan, Dr Samanta declared that 20 KIMS rural hospitals, each equipped with 100 beds and advanced medical technology, will soon be established to ensure quality healthcare for underserved communities.

KIIT Pro-Chancellor and eminent gastroenterologist Dr Subrat Acharya applauded Dr Samanta’s mission to educate and empower society.
He emphasised that medical research should remain central to the KIMS ecosystem:

Highlighting the unique patient-care model of the institution, KIMS Principal Prof (Dr) R. C. Das noted:
“KIMS is the only hospital in India where all general beds are air-conditioned and patients receive meals at just ₹100,” underscoring the institute’s blend of quality, comfort and affordability.
