Opposition Likely to Target BJP Government

Several contentious issues are expected to dominate the winter session, with the opposition preparing to challenge the ruling BJP government.

The Andhra Pradesh government’s reported attempts to conduct panchayat elections in Kotia, the Centre’s Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Mahanadi water dispute are likely to feature prominently.

The opposition may also raise concerns over the condition of roads across Odisha and the safety of vulnerable river embankments.

The ruling BJP is also preparing its strategy to counter the opposition during the session. The party is expected to highlight legislative amendments and the government’s response to Cyclone Arnab as part of its efforts to defend its performance.

With budget discussions and several politically sensitive issues on the agenda, the winter session is expected to witness heated debates between the treasury and opposition benches.
