Odisha Braces for Heavy Rain as Low-Pressure System Remains Active; Red Alert for Bargarh

An active low-pressure system over the region is continuing to influence weather conditions in Odisha, with rainfall expected to persist across several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms in different parts of the state till September 1.

A red alert has been issued for Bargarh district for the next 24 hours, warning of extremely heavy rainfall. With rough sea conditions prevailing along the coast, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

The weather department has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by extremely heavy, very heavy and heavy rainfall across Odisha over the next two days.

Red Alert for Bargarh

Bargarh is under a red warning for extremely heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, an orange warning has been issued for 10 districts, including Keonjhar, Deogarh, Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Sundargarh.

These districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall during the period.

Yellow Warning for Nine Districts

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Nabarangpur, forecasting heavy rainfall.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely in these districts. In the remaining districts, thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are expected.

The weather department has advised people to remain alert as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms may lead to waterlogging, localised flooding and disruption of normal activities in vulnerable areas.
