Odisha Engineer Ashok Basa Appointed Chair of WFEO Internal Audit Committee

Odisha-born engineer and former President of the Institution of Engineers (India), Ashok Basa, has been appointed Chairman of the Internal Audit Committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), bringing another international recognition to the state.

The appointment took effect on September 28, 2026, and Basa will serve until the end of 2027. The WFEO has constituted its Internal Audit Committee for the first time, making Basa its inaugural chairman.

Focus on Transparency and Governance

According to the appointment communication issued by WFEO Executive Director Dr. Mohez Chakchouk, Basa’s leadership, professional experience and contribution to the global engineering community were among the factors highlighted.

As chairman, Basa will oversee reviews of WFEO’s internal control systems, compliance with organisational policies and regulations, protection of assets and interests, and the reliability of financial and administrative information. The committee will also monitor corrective measures wherever shortcomings are identified and lead necessary inquiries within its mandate.

Previous WFEO Responsibilities

Basa has held several important positions within WFEO. In December 2025, he became the organisation’s Internal Auditor, reportedly the first Indian to hold the position. Earlier, he served as WFEO Executive Vice President from 2022 to 2025.

He also chaired the WFEO Strategic Planning Committee during 2022–23 and 2023–25.

Engineering Background

Basa is an alumnus of the former Regional Engineering College, Rourkela, now known as the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela.
