Odisha Braces for Fresh Spell of Heavy Rain, Low-Pressure Area Likely Around September 20

: Monsoon activity is likely to intensify once again in Odisha, with weather experts forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of the state around September 20. Rainfall activity is expected to gradually increase over the coming days.

According to weather expert Sarat Chandra Sahu, remnants of a cyclonic circulation from the South China Sea region may move into the area between September 18 and 19. Under its influence, a low-pressure area could develop over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining regions around September 20.

The system may subsequently intensify into a depression or deep depression. If atmospheric conditions remain favourable, it could potentially develop further. However, its exact track and intensity cannot be determined at this stage.

Sahu said the weather situation is expected to become clearer around September 20, when more information will be available about the system’s movement and strength.

Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for rainfall in 20 districts of Odisha for today. The India Meteorological Department has also forecast an increase in rainfall activity from tomorrow.

With rainfall expected to pick up over the next few days, residents have been advised to closely monitor regular weather updates and follow advisories issued by the authorities.

The possible development of a low-pressure system around the North Andaman Sea will be closely watched, particularly because of its potential influence on rainfall over Odisha.
