Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will lead the state’s investment outreach at India Chem 2026 in Mumbai on October 22, aiming to attract fresh investments in the chemical and petrochemical sectors and strengthen Odisha’s position as an emerging industrial destination.

During his two-day visit to Mumbai, Majhi will participate in the inaugural session and a CEO Roundtable chaired by Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers J.P. Nadda. The programme will provide Odisha with an opportunity to showcase its industrial infrastructure, investment-ready facilities and progressive policies to domestic and international investors.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to hold one-to-one meetings with representatives of more than 20 major companies to discuss potential investments, industrial expansion, downstream manufacturing and new industrial ventures in Odisha.

A key highlight of the state’s participation will be a presentation on coal gasification, an emerging area of industrial opportunity. The government may also announce plans to establish a dedicated, large-scale chemical industrial park to attract investments across chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics and packaging.

Odisha Attracts Investments Worth Over ₹1.93 Lakh Crore

According to the state government, Odisha has attracted 56 companies in the chemical and petrochemical sector over the last two years. These companies represent proposed investments of ₹1,93,087.94 crore, with the potential to generate employment for 1,12,324 people.

Of these, 27 projects have been grounded or inaugurated, involving investments of ₹60,825.34 crore and an employment potential of 35,351 people.

The government aims to build on these investments by strengthening manufacturing value chains, promoting downstream industries and creating new employment opportunities.

Jajpur Projects Strengthen Industrial Growth

The state government has also highlighted developments in Jajpur district as evidence of the growing potential of Odisha’s chemical and petrochemical industries.

According to the government, nine projects in the sector, comprising five inaugurations and four groundbreaking ceremonies, represent investments of ₹4,136 crore and are expected to create 1,508 jobs.

These projects are expected to strengthen the state’s industrial ecosystem, expand manufacturing capabilities and encourage further investment.

Odisha Targets New Industrial Opportunities

Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries, Home, and Information and Public Relations departments, said India Chem 2026 would provide an important platform to engage with leading companies and present investment opportunities in Odisha.

He highlighted the state’s industrial infrastructure, resource advantages and policy support as key factors in developing a competitive ecosystem for chemical and petrochemical manufacturing.

Odisha will participate in the event alongside Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. The state plans to leverage its established strengths in mining and metallurgy to expand into downstream chemical and petrochemical industries and promote value addition.

The proposed chemical industrial park and the focus on coal gasification are expected to support the development of integrated manufacturing facilities and ancillary industries.

Through its participation at India Chem 2026, the Odisha government aims to attract fresh investment commitments, accelerate project implementation and position the state as a preferred destination for chemical and petrochemical industries.
