Promoting Swadeshi and Empowering Artisans: Odisha Khadi Fair 2026 Showcases Handwoven Crafts and Village Industry Products
The Odisha Khadi Fair – 2026 was inaugurated today at the Khadi and Village Industries Board office near Ram Mandir, Bhubaneswar. The event aims to promote indigenous khadi products and support the economic upliftment of weavers and village industry artisans.
Khadi as a Symbol of Swadeshi and Economic Growth
Babu Singh, Bhubaneswar (Ekamra) MLA and chief guest of the event, highlighted khadi as a source of economic prosperity and a symbol of love for Swadeshi products. He emphasized the role of khadi and village industries in poverty alleviation and sustainable livelihoods.
Objectives of the Fair
Rashmita Panda, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), explained that the fair aims to showcase khadi products at a single venue and adopt a market-oriented approach to boost income for weavers and artisans. The fair, organized by the Odisha MSME Department, will run from March 23 to March 29, 2026, with stalls open daily from 3 PM to 10 PM.
Features and Exhibitions
The fair includes 75 stalls displaying a wide range of khadi garments, sarees, shawls, jackets, and various village industry products. Artisans and weavers from Odisha, Telangana, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh are participating. Visitors can also enjoy live demonstrations, traditional food, and cultural programs every evening designed to engage the younger generation.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by prominent officials, including Dr. Arundhati Devi, member of the Khadi and Village Industries Board; Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Secretary of the Board; Subhash Chhetri, State Director of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission; Joint Secretary Prafulla Kujur; and Financial Advisor Chandrahasya Nayak, among others.
