The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll will begin across Odisha from Saturday and continue till June 28. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification and correction of voter details as part of the statewide exercise.

State Chief Electoral Officer R. S. Gopalan shared detailed information regarding the voter list revision process during a press conference on Friday.

Door-to-Door Verification Across Odisha

According to the Election Department, 45,255 Booth Level Officers have been deployed for the exercise, and all officials have already completed their training.

The BLOs will visit around 3 crore 33 lakh 99 thousand 591 households across the state for verification and enumeration. Additionally, 31,026 Booth Level Agents have also been appointed to assist in the process.

Officials informed that BLOs will conduct door-to-door visits during the morning hours, while they will remain present at polling booths every day between 3 PM and 5 PM to assist voters.

Non-Indians to Be Removed From Electoral Roll

The Election Department stated that non-Indian citizens found in the voter list will be directly removed during the revision process.

The state has already completed mapping of nearly 95 percent voters, covering around 3 crore 16 lakh 3 thousand 323 electors.

Errors in Voter Details to Be Corrected

Officials said around 17 percent minor errors have been identified in the voter database. These include mistakes in age, spelling of names, and fathers’ names.

Such errors will be corrected during the house-to-house verification process. Voters whose mapping has already been completed will need to provide their photograph and signature. Citizens may also submit a new photograph if they wish.

The Chief Electoral Officer said every voter will be provided with two forms during the revision exercise.

Social Media Monitoring to Prevent Rumours

The administration has also decided to closely monitor social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation or rumours regarding the voter list revision process.

District Information and Public Relations Officers (DIPROs) have been instructed to keep a strict watch on misleading content online. Any false information detected will be immediately clarified and countered by the administration.

Forms to Be Available in Odia Language

To ensure better public participation, all voter enumeration forms will be made available in the Odia language so that people in rural areas can easily understand the process.

Authorities will also conduct awareness campaigns regarding the door-to-door verification programme and encourage citizens to provide accurate information.

Helpline Number 1950 to Assist Voters

The Election Department will widely promote the toll-free election helpline number 1950 to assist citizens with voter-related queries.

People can use the helpline to obtain information related to voter lists and also book a call with their local Booth Level Officer if needed.

District Officials Asked to Intensify Awareness Campaigns

Deputy CEO Laxmiprasad Sahu has advised district media cells, social media teams, and DIPROs to intensify awareness campaigns through local media and digital platforms.

Officials have also been instructed to maintain strong coordination between the Election Department and district administrations to ensure smooth implementation of the Special Intensive Revision programme.

The administration is also focusing on speeding up the online application process and making Booth Level Officers more active and accessible during the revision period.
