SBI Likely to Recruit 11,000–12,000 Employees in Clerical and Officer Cadres This Financial Year

In a major opportunity for banking job aspirants, the State Bank of India (SBI) is planning to recruit around 11,000 to 12,000 new employees during the current financial year. The recruitment drive is expected to cover both clerical and officer-level positions.

SBI Chairman C.S. Setty has indicated that the bank could hire between 11,000 and 12,000 employees, depending on its workforce requirements and the number of employees retiring during the year. The final recruitment figure could increase or decrease based on operational needs.

According to the chairman, the recruitment process is planned to be completed by the end of the current financial year. The proposed hiring is expected to strengthen SBI’s workforce as the bank continues to expand its branch network and services across the country.

SBI Conducted Major Recruitment Drive Last Year

SBI is India’s largest public sector bank and remains one of the most sought-after employers among banking aspirants. Every year, lakhs of candidates apply for various positions offered by the bank.

The bank also carried out a significant recruitment drive last year, including the hiring of around 1,500 IT specialists. With another major recruitment exercise expected this year, banking job aspirants are likely to have more opportunities to join the country’s largest public sector lender.

SBI Workforce Crosses 2.45 Lakh

As of 2026, SBI’s total workforce has crossed 2.45 lakh employees. According to the bank’s annual report, SBI recruited a total of 25,633 employees during 2025-26.

The recruitment included 4,640 officers, 19,340 associates or clerical employees, and 1,653 contractual employees.

The proposed hiring of up to 12,000 employees this financial year is expected to further strengthen SBI’s workforce and support its growing operational requirements.
