Pahili Bhoga Ritual Observed at Siddha Baladevjew Temple on Dhanur Sankranti

The sacred ritual of Pahili Bhoga was formally observed on the occasion of holy Dhanur Sankranti at the revered Shri Shri Siddha Baladevjew Temple in Kendrapara on Tuesday. Along with this, the special Dhanu Muana Bhoga was also offered to the presiding deity, marking the beginning of an important month-long religious tradition in the Tulasi Kshetra.

Religious Significance of Dhanur Sankranti

As per scriptures, Goddess Lakshmi departs for her parental home on the midnight preceding Dhanur Sankranti and returns only on the eve of Makar Sankranti after a month-long stay. During this period, the entire responsibility of temple rituals rests with Mother Yashomati. It is believed that Yashomati rises during Brahma Muhurta and lovingly prepares all delicacies for Lord Baladevjew and Lord Krishna, which are offered with devotion. This offering is traditionally known as Pahili Bhoga.

Early Morning Rituals Begin at Dawn

The temple doors were opened at around 4 am, followed by Jaya Mangala Alati. Subsequently, Niti Snana and Besha Ballabha rituals were performed in accordance with established temple customs. During the Ballabha ritual, the sacred Pahili Bhoga was offered to the deity.

The Bhoga included traditional items such as Poda Pitha, Pakudi, Dalimba, Laddus and Kakara, prepared following age-old practices. After the completion of the Bhoga Niti, Alati was performed. This Pahili Bhoga ritual will continue daily for one month.

Special Dhanu Muana Bhoga Offered

On account of Dhanur Sankranti, Dhanu Muana Bhoga was specially offered to Lord Baladevjew. Later, offerings were also made to the subsidiary deities of the temple, following established traditions.

Large Devotee Gathering, Tight Security Arrangements

Thousands of devotees thronged the temple premises to witness the sacred rituals and seek blessings. To ensure smooth darshan and maintain peace and order, elaborate arrangements were made by the temple administration in coordination with the police.

Executive Officer Balabhadra Patri stated that adequate security and crowd management measures were put in place to ensure a peaceful observance of the rituals. He added that the administration remains fully prepared as the month-long religious observances continue.
