Drug Mafia Injured in Bhubaneswar Police Encounter
A major police operation in Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar led to an encounter with a notorious drug trafficker, leaving him injured. The Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police carried out the operation following intelligence inputs about illegal drug activity in the area.
Drug Mafia Papun Majhi Injured in Bhubaneswar
The accused, identified as Papun Majhi from Jagannath Prasad area in Ganjam district, was reportedly planning a large-scale drug sale near Arisal under Infovalley police limits. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the location.
During the operation, Papun attempted to flee on a motorcycle and allegedly opened fire at the police team. In retaliatory firing, police shot him in the leg, injuring him. He was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Police Action Based on Intelligence Inputs
Officials said the raid was conducted after receiving credible information regarding narcotics trafficking. Papun Majhi is believed to be a hardcore drug dealer involved in multiple illegal activities in the region.
Multiple Encounters Reported in Berhampur
In a separate series of incidents, police encounters have also been reported in Berhampur, where two more accused were injured during overnight operations between Monday and Tuesday.
Accused in Gopalpur Murder Case Injured
Two absconding accused linked to the high-profile murder of real estate businessman Sudhir Patra were encountered in Ankushpur on the outskirts of Berhampur. Police said the duo tried to escape after attacking officers, prompting retaliatory firing. Both sustained gunshot injuries in their legs and were admitted to MKCG Medical College Hospital.
Earlier Encounter in the Region
On Sunday, another encounter took place in Berhampur involving Jagannath Sahu alias Jaga. Police said he attempted to escape by throwing crude bombs at officers during a raid. He was also injured in retaliatory firing.

These consecutive encounters highlight an intensified crackdown by Odisha Police on drug trafficking and violent criminal networks across Bhubaneswar and Berhampur regions.
