Shreyas Iyer to Lead India in Ireland and England T20 Series, Vaibhav Suryavanshi Earns Call-Up
Tilak Varma named vice-captain as BCCI backs youth for Ireland, England tours and Asian Games
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced the Indian squads for the upcoming T20 series against Ireland and England. The decision was taken during a selection committee meeting held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer has been appointed captain of the T20 side, while Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain for the tour.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Included in All Three Squads
One of the biggest highlights of the squad announcement is the inclusion of young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The selectors have shown immense faith in the youngster by naming him in all three squads, including the team for the upcoming Asian Games.
The move is being viewed as a major step towards building India’s next generation of international cricketers.
Bumrah Selected for Asian Games Squad
Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been included in the Indian squad for the Asian Games. He replaces Mohammed Siraj in the tournament squad, while Siraj retains his place in the T20 squads for the Ireland and England tours.
The selection reflects India’s strategy of balancing experienced campaigners with emerging talent across different competitions.
Suryakumar Yadav Omitted
The BCCI also formally confirmed the omission of senior batter Suryakumar Yadav from the squad. The decision, which was reportedly discussed during a recent Apex Council meeting, has now been officially announced.
The exclusion of one of India’s most experienced T20 batters is expected to generate considerable discussion among cricket fans and experts.
Blend of Youth and Experience
The squad features several established names, including Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Abhishek Sharma and Shivam Dube.
India’s T20 series against Ireland is scheduled to begin on June 26. The team will then travel to England, where it will play a five-match T20 International series followed by a three-match One-Day International series starting July 1.
With a balanced combination of youth and experience, India will be aiming for strong performances on foreign soil ahead of a busy international calendar.
