Puri Gears Up for Grand Deba Snana Purnima; Hati Besha Preparations in Final Stage, Police Issue Advisory for Devotees
Lakhs of devotees expected in Puri as Lord Jagannath and siblings prepare to give the rare Hati Besha darshan; police issue detailed safety advisory
The holy town of Puri is all set to celebrate Deba Snana Purnima on Monday, one of the most significant festivals associated with Lord Jagannath. On this auspicious occasion, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra will appear before lakhs of devotees in the rare and much-awaited Hati Besha (Elephant Attire) after the ceremonial bathing ritual at the Snana Mandap.
Preparations for the sacred Hati Besha are in their final stages at Gopal Tirtha and Raghav Das Math, where artisans have been working meticulously to complete the traditional attire for the deities.
Meanwhile, with lakhs of pilgrims and tourists expected to visit the holy city for the annual festival, the Puri Police have made elaborate security and crowd-management arrangements to ensure a safe and smooth celebration.
The police have appealed to devotees and visitors to cooperate with police personnel, lifeguards and volunteers by following all safety instructions. Pilgrims have been advised to take sea baths only in designated safe zones and avoid venturing into deep waters or restricted areas.
Parents have been urged to keep a close watch on their children, while visitors have been advised to remain alert about their belongings, wear light clothing and stay hydrated due to the expected heat and large crowds.

The police have also cautioned visitors against consuming alcohol on the beach and ignoring public safety announcements during the festival.
To ensure the safe custody of devotees’ belongings, the Puri Police have set up government locker and deposit counters at several key locations across the city, including behind the Temple Office, North Gate, West Gate, South Gate, Surya Complex, Marichikote Square, Town Police Station and Market Square.
