A fresh spell of unsettled weather is set to impact large parts of India as a new western disturbance approaches northern regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts warning of rain, thunderstorms, hail, and snowfall over the next two days.

Western Disturbance Triggers Weather Alerts

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the incoming western disturbance will bring scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across multiple states.

Wind speeds may reach up to 40 km/h in several regions, with isolated hailstorms also likely. Authorities have advised residents and farmers to remain cautious and follow official advisories.

Rain and Thunderstorms in Central and Eastern India

States including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Odisha, and Telangana are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning through February 26.

The IMD has warned of possible hailstorms in isolated pockets, prompting advisories for farmers to safeguard standing crops.

In the Northeast, states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim, and Meghalaya are also likely to witness rainy and stormy conditions. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep may receive showers as well.

Snowfall Likely in Hill States

In northern India, light rainfall is expected in the plains of Jammu and Kashmir, while higher-altitude areas such as Pulwama and Kupwara could receive fresh snowfall.

Himachal Pradesh is forecast to see rain and snowfall, particularly in tourist destinations like Manali and Shimla on February 26–27. Temperatures in Manali could drop to as low as -10°C.

Similarly, Uttarakhand may witness light rain and snowfall in hill districts including Nainital and Chamoli during the same period.

Snowfall in these regions could disrupt travel and lead to temporary road closures.

Clear Skies for Delhi and Neighbouring States

The IMD has not issued rain alerts for Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, or Bihar.

Delhi is expected to record a maximum temperature around 28°C, while Lucknow and Patna may see highs close to 29°C. Rajasthan and Jharkhand are also likely to remain largely dry, though some areas could experience morning fog.

Temperature Dip and Southern Outlook

The IMD has predicted a 2–3°C drop in temperatures across affected regions due to the weather system.

In southern India, Tamil Nadu may receive light rainfall through March 1.

With changing weather patterns across multiple regions, residents are advised to stay updated with official forecasts and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to hailstorms and snowfall.
