Odisha government reviews 2025-26 budget utilization and prepares for 2026-27 development programs

Bhubaneswar: A high-level secretarial meeting was held today at Kharavel Bhavan under the chairmanship of Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg, focusing on the state’s financial performance and expenditure monitoring for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The session, attended by senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh, development commissioners, and departmental secretaries, reviewed the budget utilization status up to February 2026.
The meeting emphasized ensuring that all departments adhere to the approved budget limits for the current fiscal year while highlighting the need for timely reporting and efficient resource deployment. Officials were instructed to prioritize planned development programs and ensure that expenditure aligns with budget allocations.
Key Fiscal Insights and Budget Utilization
According to official sources, Odisha has utilized approximately 78% of its allocated budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 till February, showing steady progress in sectors such as health, education, and rural development. The meeting stressed that remaining funds should be deployed judiciously to complete ongoing projects and prepare for the next fiscal year, 2026-27, which is expected to see an increased allocation for infrastructure, social welfare, and industrial development programs.
The Chief Secretary directed all departments to submit detailed action plans for proposed initiatives in 2026-27, ensuring they are financially and operationally feasible. Departments were also advised to monitor fund utilization on a monthly basis and report variances promptly.

The session highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between the Development Commission and various departments to achieve the state government’s developmental goals. The Chief Secretary underscored accountability, timely fund disbursement, and close monitoring of flagship programs to maximize public benefit.
