Bharat Taxi Service Likely to Launch Soon in Odisha

In a major development for commuters, the Bharat Taxi service is likely to be launched in Odisha soon. The government-backed app-based taxi service, similar to private platforms such as Ola and Uber, is expected to provide affordable and convenient transportation facilities to passengers.

State Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samant shared the information in a written reply to a question in the Odisha Assembly.

According to the Minister, the Bharat Taxi initiative was launched by the Union Ministry of Cooperation on February 5, 2026. The Odisha government is now taking necessary legal and administrative steps to implement the service across the state.

A high-level meeting was also held by the Ministry of Cooperation in March 2026 to discuss the implementation of the service. The meeting reviewed how the taxi service could be operated through various cooperative societies and how it could be made practically beneficial for both drivers and passengers.

The final framework and policy for implementing Bharat Taxi in Odisha are currently under consideration. Once the necessary procedures are completed, the service is expected to be rolled out in major cities of the state.

How Will Bharat Taxi Work?

Bharat Taxi will operate through a mobile application, similar to other app-based taxi services. The app is expected to be available on the Google Play Store, allowing passengers to book vehicles through their smartphones.

One of the key features of the service is that drivers will not have to pay commission to the app operator. This is expected to benefit both vehicle owners and passengers.

The service is also expected to offer transparent and stable fares without additional surge pricing during peak hours or adverse weather conditions.

Passengers will reportedly be able to book different types of vehicles, including bikes, auto-rickshaws, cars, SUVs and other vehicles through the platform.

Bharat Taxi Services Already Available in Several Cities

Bharat Taxi is currently available in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Gujarat, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur and Pune.

The service is expected to expand soon to several other cities, including Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Guwahati, Bhopal, Kolkata, Indore and Nagpur.

With the proposed expansion, Bharat Taxi could provide an additional app-based mobility option for commuters in Odisha, while also creating a cooperative-based platform for drivers and vehicle owners.
