Board Exams on Hold: Vaibhav Suryavanshi Chooses Cricket Over Class 10 Boards
Under-19 World Cup Hero Puts Cricket First, to Appear for Board Exams Next Year
The CBSE Class 10 board examinations are scheduled to begin on February 17, but Vaibhav will not be appearing for them at Poddar International School. His admit card had reportedly been transferred to Modesty School in Tajpur, Bihar, amid growing public interest over whether he would sit for the exams.
However, with a packed schedule that includes training camps, practice matches and tournament preparations, the youngster chose cricket over academics for now.
His father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, clarified that the decision was made keeping Vaibhav’s long-term cricketing goals in mind and confirmed that he will take the board exams next year.
Under-19 World Cup Heroics
Vaibhav recently grabbed global attention with a breathtaking 175 off just 80 balls in the Under-19 World Cup final against England in Harare. His explosive knock, featuring 15 sixes and 15 fours, powered India to the title and cemented his reputation as a generational talent.
The innings is already being hailed as one of the finest performances in youth cricket history.
Family Support and Public Attention
The hype surrounding Vaibhav’s board exams even led to local administrative support in Bihar, with police reportedly deployed at potential exam centres in anticipation of large crowds.
Sanjeev Suryavanshi was travelling from Patna to Nagpur via Delhi to meet his son, who continues to train intensively. Despite the public buzz, the family decided that focusing on cricket at this stage was the right move.
IPL Success and State Honour
Vaibhav’s meteoric rise began well before the Under-19 World Cup. He was named ‘Super Striker of the Season’ in the Indian Premier League 2025 edition and famously gifted his mother the Tata Curvv EV he won as part of the award.
He is scheduled to return briefly to Bihar on February 22, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will honour him at a ceremony in Patna. Training resumes the very next day.
Youngest Record-Setter Eyes Senior Cricket
Already the youngest player to score a century in List A cricket and an emerging star in the IPL, Vaibhav has now turned 15 and is setting his sights on senior-level cricket.
For the prodigy, the classroom can wait. At this stage of his journey, cricket remains the top priority — and the country will be watching closely as his remarkable career continues to unfold.
