Youth Allegedly Beaten and Set Ablaze at Girlfriend’s House in Riamal; Woman and Her Parents Detained, Probe Underway

A young man was allegedly beaten and set ablaze at his girlfriend’s house in Riamal area of Odisha’s Deogarh district, triggering a police investigation. The deceased has been identified as Silu Ray of Babarakot village.

Youth Allegedly Attacked at Girlfriend’s House

According to the complaint and preliminary information, Silu had gone to his girlfriend’s residence near Laxmi Chhak in Riamal late on Wednesday night to meet her. Her family members allegedly spotted him at the house.

It is alleged that Silu was attacked and severely beaten by members of the family, leaving him injured. He was subsequently allegedly set on fire after petrol was poured on him.

Fire and Rescue Efforts

Local residents reportedly noticed the fire and alerted the fire services. Firefighters reached the spot and brought the flames under control. However, Silu had already died by the time the fire was extinguished.

Following the incident, Riamal police reached the spot and detained the woman, along with her parents, for questioning as part of the investigation.

Previous Dispute Alleged

According to the information available, Silu allegedly consumed alcohol regularly and had previously created disturbances at his girlfriend’s house. This had reportedly led to disputes between him and her family.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding the death and the sequence of events are yet to be established by the police investigation.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. A scientific team has also been informed to assist with further examination of the crime scene and collection of evidence.
