The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, considered one of the most sacred pilgrimages for devotees of Lord Shiva, is set to begin on June 30, 2026. The pilgrimage, located in Tibet’s Kailash Mansarovar region, attracts thousands of devotees every year seeking spiritual blessings.

To ensure a safe and smooth journey for pilgrims, the Ministry of External Affairs has issued several guidelines, including rules related to baggage, health precautions and essential medicines.

Pilgrims Can Carry Up to 25 Kg Luggage

According to the new guidelines, each pilgrim participating in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will be allowed to carry luggage up to 20 kg.

Apart from this, pilgrims can carry an additional 5 kg of personal luggage, which can be used for food and beverages during their stay in China. Therefore, the total permitted luggage limit for each person is 25 kg.

Passengers carrying luggage beyond the permitted limit will have to pay additional charges.

Five-Member Support Team for Each Group

A dedicated support team will accompany every group of pilgrims during the journey. The team will consist of five members, including one doctor and four cooks.

Pilgrims have also been advised to carry necessary medicines to maintain their health during the high-altitude journey.

If the doctor accompanying the group determines that a pilgrim is medically unfit to continue the journey, the pilgrimage will be stopped for that person. The decision will be final, and no refund will be provided in such cases.

19 Types of Medicines Allowed

Pilgrims travelling for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will be allowed to carry 19 types of essential medicines and medical supplies.

These include medicines such as Crocin, Pantoprazole, Digene, Vitamin C 500 mg, Diamox, antibiotics, cough syrup, bandage cloth, cotton, adhesive plaster, Band-Aid, Betadine lotion, boric powder and other basic medical items.

Those who use homeopathic medicines will also be allowed to carry their prescribed medicines.

Yatra Schedule and Preparations

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 will begin on June 30 and continue until August 26.

The first batch of pilgrims will complete procedures related to passports, visas and medical requirements in Delhi from June 30 to July 3. The group will then reach Tanakpur on July 4.

The pilgrimage will be conducted in multiple batches. The first batch departed from Delhi on June 15 and entered through Sikkim’s Nathula Pass on June 20, 2026.

Now, additional batches are scheduled to begin their journey.

KMVN to Provide Facilities

The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) has made arrangements to ensure comfortable travel for pilgrims. The organisation will provide accommodation, food and transportation facilities throughout the journey.

With strict health and safety measures in place, the 2026 Kailash Mansarovar Yatra aims to provide devotees with a secure and spiritually enriching experience.
