Khandagiri–Udayagiri Light & Sound Show Inaugurated to Showcase Odisha’s Ancient Heritage

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Sunday inaugurated the Khandagiri–Udayagiri Light & Sound Show at Khandagiri, introducing a new immersive tourism experience aimed at showcasing the state’s ancient heritage through modern technology.

The project has been developed by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Odisha.

Heritage Meets Modern Technology

The initiative is designed to enhance the interpretation and visitor experience at the historic Khandagiri and Udayagiri caves. Through a combination of storytelling, light, sound and audiovisual technology, the show presents the rock-cut caves, sculptures and inscriptions in an engaging format.

The narrative seeks to highlight the historical and cultural legacy associated with the heritage site while offering visitors a technology-enabled experience.

Two Shows Every Evening

The light and sound show will be presented twice every evening in both Odia and English.

Each presentation will run for approximately 16 minutes and 7 seconds, with seating available for up to 120 visitors.

The two daily show timings are:

• 7:00 PM to 7:35 PM
• 7:45 PM to 8:20 PM

Boost to Heritage Tourism

The Khandagiri–Udayagiri Light & Sound Show adds a new attraction to Odisha’s heritage tourism infrastructure. The initiative combines the archaeological and cultural significance of the ancient caves with modern audiovisual technology and immersive storytelling.

The project is expected to provide visitors with a more engaging way to understand the history and heritage of one of Bhubaneswar’s prominent archaeological sites.

The inauguration event was attended by Ekamra Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, Tourism Commissioner-cum-Secretary Balwant Singh, Director of Tourism Deepankar Mohapatra, senior officials and other dignitaries.
