The possibility of another low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal has increased, raising the prospect of a change in weather conditions across Odisha in November.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea around November 11. The system may gradually intensify and develop into a low-pressure area by November 13.
Weather models further indicate that the system could intensify into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal around November 15. However, its intensity and likely direction of movement are still uncertain.
The possible movement of the system has drawn attention, particularly regarding whether it could affect the Odisha coast. Weather experts point out that low-pressure systems and cyclones developing over the Bay of Bengal in November generally have a lower probability of approaching the Odisha coast. Most such systems tend to move towards the coasts of Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh.
As per current projections, the possibility of the system moving towards the Odisha coast appears low. Its movement towards the Myanmar coast also cannot be ruled out. However, a clearer picture will emerge as the system develops and more weather data becomes available.
No Major Rainfall Expected in Odisha Over Next Two Days
Meanwhile, Odisha is unlikely to witness any major rainfall over the next two days. Light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places in southern parts of the state.
The weather is also expected to remain predominantly dry across Odisha on November 8, when Diwali will be celebrated.
Night Temperatures Likely to Drop by 2–4 Degrees
Alongside the possibility of a new low-pressure system, winter conditions are gradually expected to set in across Odisha.
Night temperatures may drop by 2–4 degrees Celsius over the next three days. According to weather experts, people may begin experiencing a slight chill from November 7.
Districts such as Kandhamal, Gajapati, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar are likely to experience colder nights.
In the hilly regions of interior Odisha, night temperatures may fall below 15 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, coastal districts are likely to record minimum temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius.
With a possible low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal and temperatures gradually declining, Odisha is likely to witness two significant weather developments in the coming days. While the IMD will continue monitoring the system’s movement, residents can expect the gradual arrival of winter conditions across the state.
