As the festival of lights, Diwali, approaches, people across Odisha are preparing to celebrate the occasion with colourful lights and festivities. This year, Diwali will be observed on Sunday, and many people are wondering whether the weather will remain favourable or rain will disrupt the celebrations.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), most parts of Odisha are likely to experience dry weather on Diwali, although a few districts may receive rainfall.

There is currently no major weather system likely to affect the state on Diwali. However, during the next 24 hours, isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada districts may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rain. Wind speeds may reach 30–40 kmph.

Weather conditions are expected to remain dry and favourable in other parts of the state.

The IMD has forecast dry weather across Odisha on November 8 and 9. However, light to moderate rainfall is likely in some districts, including Kendrapara, Keonjhar and Balasore, on November 10 and 11.

Night Temperatures Likely to Drop

Meanwhile, residents can expect a gradual increase in cold conditions across the state. Night temperatures are likely to fall by 2–4 degrees Celsius over the next four to five days.

With mostly clear skies, temperatures are expected to decline during the night, gradually bringing a winter-like chill to different parts of Odisha.

Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, said that night temperatures are likely to decrease in the coming days.

Despite the ongoing Kartik month, Odisha has not yet experienced significant winter conditions, with temperatures remaining relatively comfortable across most areas.

Dharakote Records Highest Rainfall in 24 Hours

Meanwhile, rainfall across Odisha remained limited during the past 24 hours. Dharakote in Ganjam district recorded the highest rainfall of 46 mm.

Nayagarh recorded the highest maximum temperature at 33 degrees Celsius. Among the minimum temperatures, Similiguda recorded 17.5 degrees Celsius, while Paralakhemundi and Deogarh registered 17.8 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar stood at 32 degrees Celsius. Cuttack recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 21.2 degrees Celsius.

Daringbadi recorded a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius.

With dry weather expected across most parts of Odisha on Diwali, people can look forward to celebrating the festival of lights under largely favourable weather conditions.
