No Power Cuts for Unpaid Bills During Summer: Strict Orders Issued to DISCOMs
No Disconnection for Unpaid Bills, No Unscheduled Power Cuts; 4% Rebate on Online Payments Announced
Relief for Domestic Consumers Amid Intense Heat
In a major relief for electricity consumers, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has directed all power distribution companies (DISCOMs) not to disconnect electricity supply to domestic consumers even if their bills remain unpaid during the ongoing summer season.
Keeping the extreme heat conditions in mind, the minister emphasized that households must not suffer due to power cuts, especially when temperatures are soaring across the state.
No Unscheduled Power Cuts Allowed
The minister has also strictly instructed that no DISCOM should carry out unscheduled power cuts under any circumstances. In case of necessary maintenance work, power outages must be communicated in advance through SMS alerts and other public communication channels to ensure consumers are well-informed.
He further stressed that concerned departments must take immediate steps to ensure strict compliance with these directives and establish a robust monitoring mechanism.
Government’s Commitment to Uninterrupted Power Supply
Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had assured citizens that there would be no unannounced power cuts during the summer. He warned that any official or employee responsible for unauthorized outages would face strict action, including possible imprisonment.
This assurance has brought significant relief to people who often struggle during prolonged outages amid intense heatwaves.
Electricity Tariff to Remain Unchanged
In another positive development for consumers, the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission has decided not to increase electricity tariffs for the current year.
Additionally, consumers paying their electricity bills online will receive a 4% rebate, encouraging digital transactions and offering further financial relief.
A Welcome Move for Consumers
These combined measures are expected to provide much-needed comfort to electricity users across Odisha, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and financial relief during the harsh summer months.
