Odisha Imposes Restrictions on Old Commercial Vehicles from Other States
Old Commercial Vehicles Barred to Boost Road Safety and Reduce Pollution in Odisha
The State Transport Authority Odisha has announced strict restrictions on commercial vehicles older than 10 years registered in other states, aiming to improve road safety and reduce pollution levels across Odisha.
No Entry for Old Commercial Vehicles
As per the new directive, commercial vehicles registered outside Odisha and older than 10 years will no longer be allowed to operate within the state. The move is part of a broader effort to modernize the transport system and ensure safer travel for passengers.
No New Permits or Ownership Transfers
Authorities have clearly stated that such vehicles will not be granted new permits for operation in Odisha. Additionally, Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) have been instructed not to process ownership transfers, address changes, or accept any form of transport tax for these vehicles.
Implementation of 2023 Decision
The Odisha follows a decision taken during the 301st meeting of the State Transport Authority held on July 19, 2023. The directive has now been formally implemented, with all RTOs and ARTOs instructed to enforce the rules strictly.
The decision was taken under the guidance of Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, focusing on strengthening the state’s transport infrastructure.
Focus on Road Safety and Pollution Control
Officials stated that the initiative is expected to significantly enhance road safety standards by reducing the number of unfit and outdated vehicles on roads. It will also contribute to lowering vehicular pollution caused by aging commercial vehicles.
Strict Enforcement Across the State
All transport authorities across Odisha have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the new rules. The department believes that this reform will lead to a cleaner, safer, and more efficient transport system in the state.
