The meeting was attended by Union Ministers of State Shri V. Somanna and Shri Ravneet Singh, along with the Chairman & CEO of the Railway Board and senior railway officials.

“52 Reforms in 52 Weeks” Reform Agenda

The meeting decided to roll out 52 major reforms in 52 weeks, focusing on systemic improvements in efficiency, governance, safety, and service delivery. The reform agenda reflects the spirit of the New Year, with a strong emphasis on new resolutions and transformative change across the railway ecosystem.

Strong Focus on Safety

Safety emerged as a key priority during the discussions. Officials highlighted that consequential train accidents have reduced by nearly 90 percent, from 135 incidents in 2014–15 to just 11 in 2025–26. The ministry has now set an ambitious target to bring this figure down to a single digit, further strengthening passenger safety measures.

AI and Technology Push

The Railways plans to accelerate the use of Artificial Intelligence and advanced technologies to improve safety, predictive maintenance, and operational efficiency. AI-driven systems will play a crucial role in monitoring tracks, rolling stock, and signaling systems.

Talent, Training and Catering Reforms

The meeting also discussed innovative approaches to talent management and skill development for railway employees. In addition, major reforms are planned in food and catering services, aiming to significantly improve food quality, hygiene, and onboard passenger experience.

Infrastructure and Capacity Expansion Reviewed

Union Ministers, the Railway Board Chairman & CEO, and senior officials shared on-ground experiences while reviewing ongoing infrastructure development, maintenance, and capacity enhancement initiatives.

Commitment to Passenger-Centric Growth

The Railway Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustained reforms, enhanced safety standards, technological advancement, and passenger-focused growth, positioning Indian Railways for a more efficient and future-ready transformation.
