Rising air pollution levels across Odisha have become a serious concern, with six cities from the state listed among India’s top 10 most polluted cities. The situation in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack has prompted the state government to impose strict measures to control pollution for the next seven days.
Government Imposes Emergency Measures
The Department of Forest and Environment, led by Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, announced that all construction activities in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack will be suspended from 6 PM to 10 AM. In addition, water sprinkling on roads has been mandated at various locations to reduce dust-induced pollution. Authorities are continuously monitoring air quality levels in these twin cities to ensure public safety.
Balasore Tops Pollution Charts in Odisha
Among the six polluted cities, Balasore recorded the worst air quality. According to data recorded at 9 AM, the AQI in Balasore reached 318, placing it in the “very poor” category. Despite restrictions in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Balasore has reportedly ignored safety guidelines, leading to public concern.
