AI-Based Mega Surveillance Project Approved for Puri Under ABADHA Scheme
Odisha Government Sanctions ₹195 Crore AI Surveillance Project to Strengthen Security and Crowd Management in Puri
The Odisha government has approved a massive AI-powered surveillance project for Puri under the ABADHA scheme to strengthen city security, crowd management, and emergency response systems.
The state government has sanctioned ₹195.63 crore for the establishment of an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) along with a citywide CCTV surveillance network equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
Smart Surveillance System for Puri
The ambitious project aims to transform Puri into one of eastern India’s most technologically advanced digitally monitored cities.
The AI-enabled surveillance infrastructure is expected to improve:
- City security
- Traffic management
- Crowd control
- Emergency response services
- Real-time monitoring of public spaces
Officials believe the project will significantly enhance administrative efficiency, especially during large public gatherings.
OBCC and OCAC to Implement the Project
The implementation responsibility for the project has been entrusted to the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC).
After receiving the sanctioned funds, OBCC will transfer the amount to the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC), which will handle the installation and operation of the AI-based camera systems across the city.
Focus on Pilgrim and Tourist Safety
Puri has witnessed a steady increase in the number of pilgrims and tourists in recent years due to large-scale infrastructure and tourism development initiatives undertaken by the state government.
With thousands of devotees visiting the city every day, authorities expect the AI surveillance network to strengthen public safety and improve monitoring in crowded areas.
Special Importance During Rath Yatra
The AI-based Integrated Command and Control Centre is expected to play a crucial role during major religious events like the annual Rath Yatra.
Through real-time monitoring and advanced surveillance systems, the administration will be able to manage crowds more effectively and respond quickly during emergencies.
Puri Set to Become Digitally Advanced City
Once implemented, the project is expected to place Puri among the leading digitally monitored smart cities in eastern India.
The initiative reflects the Odisha government’s growing focus on using advanced technology and AI-driven infrastructure to improve urban management and public safety.
