Riyan Parag Penalised for Vaping in Dressing Room During IPL Match
Rajasthan Royals Captain Fined and Given Demerit Point After Vaping Incident Caught on Live Broadcast
Disciplinary Action Taken by BCCI
Riyan Parag, captain of the Rajasthan Royals, has been penalised for violating rules by using an e-cigarette inside the dressing room during an IPL match. The incident occurred during Tuesday’s game against the Punjab Kings.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took disciplinary action after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
Fine and Demerit Point Imposed
As part of the punishment, 25 percent of Parag’s match fee has been deducted. Additionally, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record. This marks the first instance of a player being penalised for vaping inside a dressing room.
Incident Caught on Live Broadcast
The controversy erupted during the 16th over of the second innings when Parag was seen using an e-cigarette on live television. The visuals quickly spread online, drawing criticism and raising concerns over player conduct.
Violation of National Law
The act also violates Indian law, as the use of e-cigarettes and vaping products has been banned in India since 2019. Despite this, the player was found engaging in the activity within the team premises.
Match Result Overshadowed by Controversy
The incident overshadowed an otherwise strong performance by Rajasthan Royals, who defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets, halting their winning streak. However, the focus shifted from the match result to the disciplinary breach involving their captain.
Questions Raised Over Player Conduct
The episode has sparked debate over discipline and professionalism in cricket. Authorities are expected to remain vigilant to ensure adherence to rules both on and off the field.
